An XLM file is an Excel 4.0 macro file used for automating repetitive tasks. It was first added to Excel in 1992 but is now disabled by default. While XLM files can still be opened with Excel, Microsoft encourages users to migrate macros to the latest version of Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Care should be taken when opening XLM files from unfamiliar sources, as they contain executable codes.
