Renowned for its clear syntax, Amuse Markup Language emphasizes content creation over complex formatting. The MUSE format employs contextual markup rules to guide document output. For example, indented text is typically formatted as a quotation, distinguishing it from standard paragraphs. Originally developed by John Wiegley, the language's stewardship passed to Michael Olson and has since been extensively revised by Marco Pessotto for its present version. The language's primary application is in generating documents readily convertible to formats like PDFs or EPUBs through the Amusewiki platform. Amusewiki, which adopts the MUSE extension, is a text publishing framework capable of generating print-ready PDFs and doubles as a blogging or wiki system, with a focus on producing print-optimized documents.
