A DOT file is a legacy template format primarily associated with Microsoft Word. These templates contain pre-formatted document settings, including headers, footers, margins, font sizes, and other common page styles. They facilitate the creation of consistent documents, such as company letterheads, business memos, or envelopes.
Originally, DOT files were the default templates in Microsoft Word. However, since Microsoft Office 2007, they have been replaced by DOTX files, which use the newer Open XML-based Word document format.
