The XLT file extension stands for Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Template. It is used in Microsoft Excel versions 97 through 2003 to create templates containing default formatting, layout, and formulas. These templates serve as a starting point for generating new spreadsheets with consistent design and structure. Although replaced by the XLTX format in Excel 2007 and later versions, XLT files are still supported for backward compatibility.
