The VIPS (Virtual Image Processing System) file format, developed by the libvips library, is designed for high-performance image processing with low memory usage. Its widespread adoption stems from its capability to encapsulate metadata efficiently, enabling accurate and effective exchange of complex datasets among researchers and institutions.
