The MRW file extension, short for Minolta Raw Image, is a raw photo file format developed by Minolta for their Dimage digital cameras. After Sony acquired Minolta, the MRW format was gradually replaced by Sony's ARW format, but MRW files remain in use, especially with legacy Minolta cameras. Its plain text encoding simplifies debugging and data manipulation, although its lack of compression results in larger file sizes compared to modern formats. As such, PPM finds limited use in contemporary applications, mainly in educational and experimental settings where ease of implementation and readability are prioritized.
