DICOM and DCM both stand for an identical format. The DICOM file extension is integral to the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard, a cornerstone in medical IT for storing and transmitting imaging data like CTs, MRIs, and ultrasounds. RAS and SR both stand for an identical format. A file with a RAS extension is the Sun Raster image file format developed by Sun Microsystems for their Unix platforms using SunOS operating system. This format supports storing monochrome, grayscale, and color-bitmapped data of any bitmap depth, and lossless data compression using RLE.
